Question & Answer

Hi Normandie,
Please can you help me. My nails are in a mess and I would love to give them a great manicure, but I can't afford the nail salons. They often chip and break. Can you give me any tips on getting them long and healthy looking?
Thanks
Tamara
Swansea

Dear Tamara
I think that hands tell a lot about a person so it is great to try and keep yours well maintained and manicured, both Sally Hansen and Nailtiques make supreme products that can give you a salon type finish. Seeing as it is quite hard to do a manicure yourself, maybe you could find an artistic friend and both give each other manicures. Always let her go first, lots of love Normandie xx
Dear Normandie,
I am going to my best friends wedding in September and have found a gorgeous dress to wear. However, I absolutely hate wearing tights and don't agree with sunbeds - how can I get my legs looking fabulous in time for her big day?
Love R, Leicester

Dear R
How exciting that it is your best friends wedding in September I agree I loathe to wear tights and you are very smart to be protective of sun damage, but white legs will surely ruin your gorgeous outfit, so I suggest either splurging for a salon done self tan, the new air brushing ones are so quick and give you a flawless finish or you can try your hand at DIY making sure first to vigorously exfoliate legs to ensure even application also dilute the self tanner (San Tropez is the best) with a little bit of moisturizer around your ankles and knees as these spots tend to absorb tan more readily and you do not want to look like you have been kneeling in mud!! Have a wonderful day.

Dear Normandie,
I'm going on the first holiday with my boyfriend in sept backpacking around thailand, the problem is my hair is really frizzy when it dries naturally and the only way to straighten it is with irons, except I can't pack one. So what am I going to do, I can't let him see me looking a frizzy mess instead of a bronzed goddess!

Dear Bronze Goddess
I have the same exact problem! As soon as my hair hits a holiday it either becomes an Afro or completely limp, so I always end up bringing some seriously fragrant conditioner like Keratase Age Recharge which I use in the day to slick back my hair in a pony tail or chic bun, in the evening the wet look is also very sexy and can be done with a good styling gel, like Richard Ward’s, and add a local flower for flourish as well as some big jangly earrings and you are hot to trot for your holiday.
Lots of love Normandie

Dear Normandie,
I have a real problem buying foundation. I have really pale skin and find it really difficult to find a foundation that doesn't make me look really white (like casper) or alternatively gives me an orange line around my face. Can you recommend any good products that may give a natural, fresh coverage??
Love Lola, Kent

Dear Lola
I know just what you feel like, trying to find a fitting foundation! The best I have come across is Chantecaille oil free foundation gel. Which you can blend using the shades ivory and sand to create a perfect complexion with total coverage. Don’t forget an illuminating blush, the Nars multiple sticks give cheeks a dewy glow.

Dear Normandie,
I am four months pregnant and I have heard that it is about now that I should be protecting my skin against stretch marks. How should I best do this and is their a cream or oil that you can recommend?
Many thanks
Jilly B, Basingstoke

Dear Jilly B
Hurrah, congratulations, I am four months pregnant too, and all my stretch mark free girlfriends swear by Palmers Coco Butter, so I have practically been eating the stuff since day one. It is never too early to start, fingers crossed! Let me know how it is all going, sending you lots of love Normandie xx
Dear Normandie,
My girlfriend had a terrible accident last year which has left her terribly scared on her upper thighs, now she is very self conscience of her body and wont go to the beach in anything but long shorts. I am planning a surprise holiday to the Caribbean for our 2 year anniversary next month and I want her to enjoy it as much as possible. Have you got any idea's as to what she could wear to the beach instead?
All the best,
Colin Murray from Cardiff

Dear Colin
I am so sorry to hear about your girlfriends tragic accident, vitamin e really helps scars and now boots even make adhesive scar pads which really can help to blend damaged skin. As for your wonderful holiday, what a kind and romantic gesture, when you give her the good news about going, maybe it would be nice to present her with some lovely silk sarongs that she can wear over her bathing suit on the beach and in the evenings, this will not only cover her thighs but make her feel exotic and glamorous. Have a great trip and happy anniversary. Lots of love Normandie xx
Dear Normandie,
My partner is incredibly hairy all over his body and refuses to wax due to the pain. Are there any other alternatives to waxing for men?
Jane Butcher, Watford

Dear Jane
This is a very common problem and one solution is to use a depilatory cream that you can get from any drug store, if he is feeling a bit touchy about this subject and you want to make sure he is not wearing a hair shirt, you could offer to lovingly massage in the cream and then remove it using warm towels, but just be careful you will have a hair clothe instead of a wash clothe – good luck. Lots of love Normandie xx
Dear Normandie
My boyfriend is taking me on a fabulous beach holiday which I'm really looking forward to but I get really dry skin and I'm worried that the sun and the sea will dry it out. Is there anything I can use as a good moisturizer?
Love K, Cardiff

Dear K
How wonderful to go on a fabulous beach holiday and I understand your fear about your dry skin as sun and sea will definitely dehydrate. It is crucial to use a good sun block, Nivea makes great ones and you can get them from Boots, most are moisturizing enough to use alone in the day. At night Decleor make a Balm Essential which will reinfuse your skin with essential oils and moisture thus creating that holiday glow. Have a wonderful trip lots of love Normandie xx
